PERSONALITY
DESCRIPTION: Caius can be labeled as your traditional mage, found often with his nose inside a book, or engrossed in his research. He is very intelligent when it comes to the magickal arts, but is somewhat socially inept as far as tact is concerned. He doesn't have a filter over his mouth, so you're guaranteed to receive the honest to Divines truth from the man. This has gotten him in trouble numerous times, but his magickal prowess has proven the better resource in fights.
To those he deems worthy of being friends, he is a loyal comrade who will not hesitate to drop what he is doing to lend his aid. While very studious, Caius does have the sense of mind to take a few breaks in between research projects to have a little fun. As far as the fairer sex goes, Caius only has the resources he has from his books and studying other men at taverns. While not a comprehensive guide to getting into women's pants, Caius has had a stroke of luck when it comes to women, and that is partly due to his innate charm and speech abilities. While others can drone on and on about magicks, Caius is able to make even the most dull Nord understand how to throw a fireball. This has lent him to being a great tutor to his fellow mages, but it has also garnered him a fair amount of jealousy and sideways glances.
Regarding his personal exploits in the realms of Necromancy, Caius knows that the College has no definitive answer regarding the act, only that he do his experiments in the bowels of the College. Unfortunately for Caius, he has kept his Necromancy experiments a secret from his friends and loved ones, instead opting to brush it off as a fleeting idea if anybody probes him. While not inherently evil or diabolical, Caius has prepared himself mentally for the changes that he assumes he might undergo for the sake of expanding his magickal talents. Unfortunately for him, he wasn't aware of the physical manifestations that would result.
All in all, Caius is a good enough man to be around, and is indispensable in fights, but his recent forays into Necromancy has started to affect his mind and body, causing the otherwise stable mage to begin showing signs of duress.
HISTORY
History: Caius Aquilus Darrow was born to Sofia and Archerus Darrow in the Imperial City in Cyrodil. Archerus was an adviser to a local politician while Sofia was a seamstress who had a fairly profitable clothing business. When Caius was a toddler, it was found out that the boy had incredible magickal talent when he nearly set his nursery on fire after having a sneezing fit. Alarmed, yet wholly intrigued by this event, his parents sought help from their political friend who mentioned the College of Winterhold. While not entirely sure if Skyrim would be the best place for an Imperial, the family took their young son to the harsh tundra. While Skyrim itself had lush plateaus and vibrant wildlife, Winterhold was a frozen wasteland damn near inhospitable in the minds of the Imperials from Cyrodil.
As the family gained entrance to the College via treaty with the Jarl, Archerus was reluctant to leave his son's fate in the hands of the old wizards of the College, but Sofia convinced her husband to trust the College to help their child where they could not. Archerus agreed, and they left young Caius in the hands of the College mages. As the years wore on, it was realized that Caius was a shining example of a student, but his mouth had gotten him into more trouble than they wished for him, as several fights had to be stopped between him and some of his classmates.
As he grew into adolescence, Caius learned of his preference towards electric and frost spells, finding the cold of frost more agreeable to the warmth of fire spells. Although he was capable of wielding fireballs as easily as bolts of lightning, he felt that arcs of lightning were more impressive than spouts of fire. This went against the other students who preferred fire spells themselves, but it caused no rifts between Caius and his friends.
Being the bookworm he was, Caius eventually stumbled upon forbidden text within the Arcaneum, reading about Necromancy and the possibilities such a school of magick offered. Tantalized by the possibility of resurrecting the dead, Caius began experimenting with the craft, exhuming bodies from the nearby Winterhold cemetary and using the bodies for his research. As time wore on, the mage began to grow suspicious of his friends' questions as to where he was most nights, but he used his Imperial charm to coax them from their interloping queries.
Now, as news of the Civil War breaking out across Skyrim and the return of dragons to the land, Caius' research has taken a back seat to the events unfolding in his second home. But is the closet Necromancer prepared to take on flying lizards?
WEAPONS, ABILITIES AND MAGIC
WEAPON(S): Staff of Chain Lightning, Elven dagger
MAJOR SKILLS:
Speech: Being an Imperial affords Caius the ability to not only barter with merchants and the like to achieve beneficial prices for the Imperial, but to gain friends and craft strong bonds within relationships. An unfortunate side effect of this is that he doesn't have a filter, and tends to give his honest opinion about things, often getting himself in trouble.
Destruction: Having studied at the College of Winterhold since he was able to understand the words in his books, Caius is well-versed in the Destruction area of magick. This being his chosen skill, Caius is able to cast expert level spells with little difficulty and great effectiveness.
Restoration: While not able to seal incredible wounds, Caius is able to heal someone in dire need of medical attention, if not to stave off infection or immediate death. He is, at most, adept in this magick skill tree.
Alchemy: Caius is the man to see if you need a potion to cure that bout of Skeever itch or rot. Having been fascinated with potions and poultices from a very young age, Caius has an alchemy station in his room, and has an entire wardrobe full of different potions to cure any ailment.
Enchanting: This skill has only been in use for the past two years, as Caius has only recently started enchanting things for the sake of something new to do. He is a novice in regards to this skill, and can recharge enchanted weapons to some effectiveness, but he is hardly capable of making the more intensive enchantments to say armor and weapons as he would like to be.
One Handed: While he will win no strength contests, Caius is physically fit and can use his elven dagger to stab anybody who might attempt to harm him, but he prefers to use his magick as oppose to brawn.
MAGIC: Caius is well-versed in Destruction magick, and is capable of handling the expert level spells with little difficulty. Restoration is a close second, and the other forms of magick are novice, at best. While he is no Archmage, Caius is a gifted student at the College and can wield lightning bolts, ice spikes, and fireballs to great effect. He can heal minor wounds easily, and can help ease someones pain so they don't pass out.
